Exploring information architecture and software interface design decisions

No UI, Is Best UI

The genesis of graphical user interfaces (GUI) permitted us to interact with electronic devices. From one Zenith to the next, GUI have propelled us into our present future, but it is time we part ways.

The very apparatus that supported our growth now binds and constrains our advancement. Successfully removing the shackle of the desktop, we find ourselves merely on parole, checking in on schedule throughout the day.

That our voices shall be heard we look toward speech recognition and conversational interactions where the graphical interface mechanism evolves invisible and the results mere pleasant confirmations. Advances of this nature signal the inevitable progression toward no UI.

To UI Designers, the solution to every new design problem is a UI. Perhaps as graphical interfaces fade and conversational AI emerges, more focus will be placed on interaction and the needs of the user? Stepping back would enable UI Designers to sunset the UI portion of their moniker and awaken as Designers.
